The 2016 Summer Music Camp (SMC) is a 3-week music day camp for 35 students ages 5 to 12 that will be held July 11-28 , 2016. The camp provides students with the opportunity to experience instrumental, and vocal music for the first time. Through the work of four teaching artists with the support of six assistants, students learn fundamentals, and simple tunes on violin, African drums, piano, a woodwind or brass instrument. They also sing in a group choir.
The camp meets Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 12:00pm each day and students receive free breakfast and lunch through the St. Paul Public School Free Summer Meal Program. The camp culminates in a final performance that is free and open to the public at the Academy’s new performance hall at 760 Selby Avenue. All instruments ar provided to students and no prior instrument or voice experience is expected or required.
